home about us meet the team contact us home about us meet the team contact us archaeology live! 2018 every good archaeologist knows that there’s much more to archaeology than just excavation! york archaeological trust are delighted to invite you to don your thinking caps and explore other aspects of archaeology. the all saints, north street excavations. image courtesy of david dodwell archaeology live! is known for annual training excavations held in the heart of york, and the innovative ways in which we have allowed people to get hands on experience of the discipline through expert tuition from full-time professional archaeologists. created back in 2001, the project was one of the first excavations to be entirely funded by the people who take part. however, in 2018, we are stepping outside of the trench and into new territory altogether. this year we plan to take a hiatus from excavation whilst we arrange an all new and exciting site for 2019, and instead take a good long look at the theory behind archaeological practice. our team are currently creating a range of new courses that will offer detailed introductions to various aspects of off-site archaeological processes. whether you are starting out on a career in archaeology, or just want to know more about the more “behind-the-scenes” aspects of the discipline, we hope to offer something of interest and all are welcome to take part!. when? we are just starting to draft up ideas and would hope to offer courses at intervals through summer, autumn and winter, although dates, content and duration are still tbc. what courses do we offer? while many details are still tbc, we are looking to cover areas such as osteoarchaeology, methods of survey, analysis of pottery, conservation, finds processing and post-excavation analyses. we have big plans for 2019 and hope to have more details in a few months. for an idea of the courses we hope to offer in 2019, the links below should give you a good idea. one week and longer courses 2019 dates tbc taster courses 2019 dates tbc weekend excavations 2019 dates tbc post-excavation courses 2019 dates tbc the week six team, all saints 2015 do i need experience?
